Becoming a Member of the Manitoba Physiotherapy Association. (MPA)
The Association has set a standard of excellence, positioning physiotherapists as leaders in shaping the future of health care. As health care changes, so does the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. Today, the Association not only promotes physiotherapy to consumers and key decision makers, it also sets the standard for excellence in professional conduct, education, business development and marketing. Members enjoy enhanced services, products and the tools to promote their profession.
i. Why join the MPA?
Joining the MPA is an investment in your future. Health care is becoming increasingly complex and competitive. As such, you need a unified and strong voice to lead in the face of changing expectations from the public and from government. The MPA’s volunteers, who bring with them a variety of passions and skills, bind the profession together in strength, power, and professionalism.
ii.What does the MPA do for its members?
The MPA focuses its activities in four key priority areas including:
- unifying Manitoba’s physiotherapists for government relations
- lobbying
- research development and providing information on evidence-based practice
- marketing and public relations
The MPA has realized many significant successes including:
- enhanced and directed advocacy efforts, ensuring physical therapists are integral healthcare providers for Manitobans
- proactive media and public relations efforts, bringing the physiotherapy profession front-and-centre in the public eye
- preparation of proposals to support and influence health care legislation and funding at the provincial level
- ensuring physical therapists have access to the most current treatment methods, tested and assessed by research
iii. How do I join MPA?
You are eligible to join the MPA as long as you are a graduate or student of an accredited physiotherapy program at a Canadian university or you hold a current or past full registration with any physiotherapy regulatory board in Canada. Membership in MPA is automatic when you join CPA.
